Post Combustion Furnace Improvement
Associated with a plant design company, ALR Fluidmechanics was in charge to improve the design and performance of post combustion furnaces. Based on detailed theoretical and experimental similarity analyses, isothermal model tests and numerical flow modelling were applied to large tube boilers and furnace areas in which aerodynamics play a significant role. In order to increase the flue gas post combustion efficiency, emphasis was put on the flue gas rotating flow and the analysis and design of the mixing of fresh air jets with the rotating confined flue gas cross-flow. Simulation studies and additional model tests predicted a more uniform residence time of the flue gases, resulting in an improved combustion efficiency; these results were fully confirmed by consecutive full-scale plant measurements.
